The facelifted 5 seat Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is back with a re-designed coupé SUV concept, a turbocharged engine, and enhanced safety features. Mitsubishi importer Cycle & Carriage is putting two versions of the car on sale, with a Classic variant listed for S$136,999 and the better-equipped Style trimline going for S$145,999. Both prices include a Certificate Of Entitlement, as well as a S$3,000 early-bird discount.
Specifically, the Eclipse Cross' front end stands out thanks to the new slender headlamps and daytime running LEDs mounted on top of the bonnet. The changes continue at the rear, where a new rear hatch and window design add roughly 28 litres of cargo capacity to the boot. To give it more coupe-like proportions, the car's body is 14 cm longer, and a section of the tailgate protrudes between the taillights.
Seats in the rear can be reclined and folded in a 60:40 ratio to greatly increase cargo space. With that said, four 9-inch golf bags can be comfortably accommodated in the spacious 405-litre luggage compartment.
An upgraded 8,0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is available for $9,000, a feature that's becoming increasingly important these days. Also on board are a powered driver's seat, leather upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels, as well as steering-mounted paddle shifters. The extra cash also buys dual-zone climate control as well as front and rear parking sensors, along with a 360-degree monitor and electric parking brake.
The only engine available here is a 1.5-litre turbo that drives the front wheels using a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that imitates an eight-speed auto. While the car has 163 horsepower, it takes 9.7 seconds to reach 100 mph. A lightweight, all-aluminum design makes the MIVEC engine suitable for power and efficiency needs. In addition to reducing fuel consumption, a compact turbocharger reduces turbo lag for an improved driving experience. Furthermore, direct fuel injection and turbocharging deliver greater fuel economy across all road conditions and engine speeds.
