Porsche responded to Tesla's Model S eight years later with an electric car that feels like a turning point in the industry. That time finally paid off. There's no doubt about it: the 2022 Porsche Taycan is a game-changer. The Taycan is Porsche's first electric vehicle. In a coupe-like design, the four-door saloon rides on a new battery-electric platform developed by the Volkswagen Group, which will also be used in Audi e-Tron GT.
Moreover, you can now remotely park the Taycan using your smartphone, so you don't have to be in the vehicle. Porsche puts forth more paint choices thanks to the "Paint to Sample" program, which lets consumers pick their own colours.
In the front of the vehicle, the four-point LED headlights to appear to float thanks to the matrix beams that incorporate all of the light functions into a single unit. With its dynamic flat flyline, this Taycan has a fluid, but a sharp silhouette. The Porsche logo appears encased in a glass-like three-dimensional pattern at the rear of the vehicle.
With two roof options, you can choose between a curvy variant made of lightweight aluminium or a dipped roof, which resembles what we know from motorsports. An open, airy atmosphere can also be achieved with a panoramic, fixed roof.
Inside the sleek-looking Taycan lies a very savvy surrounding. The design is purportedly basic and resembles previous Porsche models. In line with expectations, the interior could be furnished with a variety of rich materials and colours. Luxury features include four-zone temperature control, massaging front seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated rear seats. Standard seating for the Taycan is 2+2, however, a third seat can be added to the back if needed. The layout is specifically designed with the driver in mind. In addition to the instrument cluster, which features a 16.8-inch curved display, you can also control lighting and chassis functions with Direct Touch Control panels. Furthermore, the optional head-up display puts the most important driving information straight into the driver's field of vision.
Porsche Communication Management (PCM) can be configured on the central 10.9-inch display individually, so drivers can have direct access to most functions.
The 8.4-inch control screen in the centre console has a removable menu bar that gives you access to navigation, media, phone, settings, and Apple CarPlay. From here, you may also open and close the baggage compartment and charging flaps. You may also see the charging display and battery charge status.
522 horsepower is generated by the smaller battery in the 4S, and 562 horsepower by the larger battery. Various options are available for the top models, including the Turbo and Turbo S with 670 and 750 hp, respectively. The base model makes between 402 and 469 hp, depending on the battery size, and it is rear-wheel-drive only. Based on the battery size and electric motors, the Porsche has a range of 199 to 227 miles. Featuring an 800-volt architecture, the 270-kilowatt peak charging rate is available on all models. In 23 minutes, Taycan says it can charge from 5 to 80% thanks to its 83.7 kilowatts charging power. Alternatively, a 50 kilowatts direct current can charge the Taycan from 5 to 80% in 93 minutes if 800 volts cannot be found.
